The Christian Doppler Laboratory for High Performance TCAD at the Institute for Microelectronics, TU Wien is looking for a highly motivated individual for an open PhD student / research assistant position (full employment, 3 years, 40 hours/week) in the area of computational science. The research goal is to improve the performance and capabilities of semiconductor fabrication simulations by utilizing modern multi- and many-core computing platforms. The actual research topics will be tailored to the candidate unique expertise and interests. Example topics could be high performance geometrical algorithms or accelerated physical modelling and solution methods (e.g., for etching or diffusion problems). No prior knowledge in theoretical electrical engineering or physics is required.
The candidate is expected to be team player, eager, proactive, and self-reliant. The candidate is further expected to enter TU Wien’s doctoral programme, present research findings at international conferences (for which funding is available) as well as to publish in international journals. Excellent command of written and spoken English (our working language) is a must. The workplace will be located in the heart of Vienna at the Institute for Microelectronics, TU Wien.
Required Education Level is Master Degree or equivalen. Any master’s degree in the area of computational science, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering is eligible.
Desired Skills and Experiences
The candidate must be skilled in developing C++ code on Linux platforms. In particular, we are looking for people who enjoy developing scientific, numerical software. Previous experience in this area as well as with parallel programming (e.g. OpenMP) is a plus. Previous exposure to theoretical electrical engineering or physics is not required.
This position is subject to the collective agreement of TU Wien for workers and employees, employment group B1. The monthly salary is paid 14 times p.a. and the gross annual salary is approximately EUR 40 103,-.
The position will remain open until filled. The actual start date can be negotiated.
