State of the art simulation tools use a large number of parameters necessary for the modeling of the physical effects, e.g., MINIMOS-NT has more than 500 adjustable parameters [3]. For sure all of them have an assigned default value, but these need not always adequately provide correct results. Tool calibration can be used to tune the simulator parameters thus enabling it to model the actual fabrication process.
