2.1.5 Demand for a General Optimization Framework

In all these optimization tasks the optimization goal and the structure of the target function differs. Generally in TCAD applications the model function can be an arbitrary sequence of simulators and data manipulation tools, like regridding, data conversion, etc.  For this reason a general approach for solving these applications has to be found.

The approach of a general optimization environment consisting of a simulation framework with integrated optimization modules has the flexibility to cope with various tasks and simulators. For building up this environment several libraries and projects are used as a solid basis.
