7.3.2 Applying patches

This mode, activated by the command line option applyPatch, allows to update a released version with a patch data file. A compressed patch data file is automatically uncompressed by the compression program of the VBS prior to applying the patch. During update VMake automatically detects conflicts with user made local changes. In this case, the user can decide:

  1. to use the local changes,
  2. to apply the patch and ignore local changes,
  3. to terminate VMake. In this case the rest of the patch can be applied later.
Files which are identical to the updated patch are recognized and an informational message is printed. In the presence of files which have been removed from the distribution and have been locally modified the user can choose
  1. to delete the file,
  2. preserve the file,
  3. to exit VMake.
The release information file must be available to apply any patches and is automatically updated during the patch. Multiple patches may be applied at once. The patch data file has to be copied into the directory defined by the environment variable VPROJECT.
