In this section three algorithms from evolutionary computation and genetic optimization are introduced. First the most general formulation of an algorithm in evolutionary computation is given and its concept explained. In this view the classic genetic algorithm is presented, whose functioning will be quantified later in Section 8.5. The third algorithm is the state of the art algorithm used in the SIESTA framework (cf. Part III).
