3.2.1.1 Wafer Representation

The PIF format offers a rich syntax for the description of physical entities as they arise in TCAD. It enables the structured modeling of the wafer geometry using segments for different materials and, furthermore, distributed quantities can be defined on those segments using various types of meshes. Moreover, PIF comes with a data model (Wafer-State) [70] which enables a unique interpretation of a PIF data. Therefore, any tool is able to read and interpret a PIF wafer description without loss of information.
