3.4.2.2.1 Priority Naming.

If a symbol's name does not include a dot character '.' (e.g. time, dose) they receive their values either from the input port of the model or from the results of the first preceding tool that offers a result labeled with the symbol's name or from auxiliary status information of the model, in the order described here. Priority naming results in shorter symbol names and does not require renaming of symbols when a tool's label -- to which a symbol refers -- is changed. The symbol defined by <(temperature)> receives its value from the input port named temperature, if such a port exists. Otherwise the value will be taken from the first preceding tool offering a result labeled temperature. If a source for a template symbol can not be identified, this is recognized when the description of the simulation-flow-model is parsed and an error message will be issued.
