A large variety of process and device simulation tools exist in the TCAD realm, each having been designed for special purposes and applications. Simulators model processes and devices in one dimension, two dimensions, and three dimensions. Process simulators are either geared towards the detailed analysis of single process steps or towards modeling complete process flows. The application of tools to a TCAD task is supported by frameworks, that cover data management and automation aspects.
