Ryan Behunin explores the physics of fluctuation-induced phenomena (FIP) and optomechanics. His work on FIP investigates fundamental questions regarding the interaction of light, sound, and matter—spanning from quantum friction to laser noise. Brillouin physics, describing the interaction of light and sound, is his primary focus within optomechanics. Ryan is part of a multi-institution collaboration developing new chip-scale lasers and sensors that utilize the unique properties of Brillouin physics.
