Similar to all standard tools described in Chapter 1, VMake has some predefined goals. Table 7.3 contains a short description of these special symbols representing simple goals. The location for the goal evaluation is deduced from the working project, the working directory and the selected checking area.

In addition to these single goals, VMake has combined predefined symbolic goals as listed in Table 7.4.

The name of these goals are identical to common goals used under make, MMS, and imake for the same purpose. If not stated otherwise, `all' is used as default goal.
