3.3.2 Differential Geometric Notation

To develop transformation relations from cartesian coordinates to a general curvilinear system certain concepts from differential geometry are helpful.

We denote the position vector in physical space (cartesian coordinates) and the position vector in computational space (curvilinear coordinates) (3.3-1).
